Responsibilities

  • Interprets prescription and helps patients choose appropriate eyewear, consulting with prescribing physicians as appropriate
  • Takes optical measurements necessary for eyewear preparation
  • Orders eyewear from laboratory based on prescription and patient preference
  • Performs quality inspection of lenses and frames
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, adjust and repair eye wear using appropriate tools and instruct on cleaning and handling
  • Makes any necessary repairs using appropriate parts and tools
  • Maintains equipment and inventory of supplies

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Previous optical experience preferred; willing to train if eager to learn
  • Optician certification is a plus but not required
  • Detailed oriented, reliable, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
  • Demonstrated sales ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Word and Excel
  • Flexible schedule working Monday through Saturday (with Sunday and 1 day off during the week)
  • Computer skills, knowledge of Officemate or Crystal is a plus
  • Familiar with optical insurance plans including VSP, Eyemed and Spectera
  • Understanding of lens types, materials and coatings
